‘HELP GEORGE YEO INTO EARLY RETIREMENT’

Posted on April 29, 2011 by satayclub

Speaking at a rally in Serangoon, WP's Sylvia Lim urged Aljunied voters to help George Yeo to an early retirement

In a response to Foreign Minister George Yeo’s incredible tirade against the Workers’ Party earlier on Friday, WP chairperson Sylvia Lim urged voters in Aljunied GRC to “help him to an early retirement”.

Speaking to a massive rally crowd gathered at Serangoon Stadium, Ms Lim said: “One of the things you might be thinking about is whether the election of Workers’ Party candidates in Aljunied means that Minister George Yeo’s talents will be lost for Singapore. We understand how you feel, but please think about this carefully. Mr Yeo’s talents will not be lost if he loses.”

“Remember that the PAP has control and influence over all government-linked companies and statutory boards, which means that Mr Yeo still has a bright future. He will be able to contribute to the national interest in so many ways. He could easily be appointed as chairman of one of these organisations, or even ambassador-at-large like Professor Tommy Koh.”

“In fact, this is what happens to PAP ministers when they retire. So don’t think of voting for the Workers’ Party as voting against George Yeo. Think of it as helping him into early retirement.”

Her comments were greeted with thunderous applause and raucous cheers from the crowd. Mr Yeo had earlier said that by fielding all its top candidates in Aljunied, the WP was forcing voters into an “emotional dilemma” between their own self-interest and the “overall cause of the opposition”. He also said that this was “against the spirit of democracy”.

His bizarre remarks were predictably used as cannon fodder by several of the speakers at the WP rally, drawing flak from candidates including Ms Lim, Mr Low Thia Khiang and Mr Chen Show Mao.

George Yeo is a good Foreign Minister?
Our policy is to hobnob with the rogue states – North Korea, Myanmar, Libya, Iran etc etc. Basically just earn their money, and don’t care about what their governments do to their people..

He’s also the one who proposed the casino in 2004/5.. sad

do not ridicule George Yeo, because indeed, he did a very good job… of all the MPs in Parliament, I support him the most… however, like i mentioned earlier, i would still choose WP if i was in Aljunied GRC because i will definitely support talent, passion as well as caring attributes compared to track records…

George Yeo has delivered as Foreign Minister. He is one of Singapore’s best ever foreign ministers and his accomplishments include inking the US-Singapore FTA. Can Sylvia Lim or Low Thia Khiang do that? Singaporeans need to decide what they want. Do they want opposition just for the sake of opposition, or do they want someone who can deliver? What is the big deal about having opposition when there is nothing wrong with the ruling party? In any case, if Sylvia or Low are saying that they want to provide residents with alternative voices, they can do it as NCMPs.

my dear, you are mistaken about NCMPs… NCMP is the most ridiculous position that the MIWs have made up… they have no power, and at the same time, they are ridiculed most of the time… watch Sylvia Lim’s NCMP speeches in the parliament and it will tell you very well why so many people are supporting her… she is by far, the most passionate and caring person i have ever seen… despite having to be ridiculed over and over again in the parliament, she still spoke up for poor people like us… indeed, George Yeo did not do any wrong stuff… but he made one very big mistake, join a GRC… if he was in a SMC, he will definitely win hands down… but this time round, it is 3 huge “fat man” and two small “Little Boy” shooting at a cannon and 4 rogue machine guns… therefore, ask me who I would choose… nuclear bombs hands down…

remember… this election is not about who did right, so we must support them… this election is also not about punishing the ruling party… this election is about choosing the best candidates into the government and represent voices of our own…

People shouldn’t get so uptight here. Have a sense of humor. Its obvious Sylvia has one and don’t jump on her. If you think its so easy to be an opposition NCMP, try to be one yourself.

DO u know , all ministers have pension money after 2 terms of services , which is equal to half of their present income, yet they can earn more from new assignment like go to government link companies as CEO

George Yeo is a person of international standing. The people of Aljunied GRC are so lucky to have him. What did Sylvia Lim do when she was an NCMP? At least Walter Woon an NMP passed a legislation in Parliament to help those poor parents get maintenance from their ungrateful children. What did Low Thia Kiang do all these 20 years in Parliament? What did the WP candidates do for the people of Aljunied? What did you do for the people of Aljunied when they had problems? Stop talking and start doing.I hope it is not sour grapes

It’s just kinda sad because GY is one of the better PAP ministers. Either way, the voters of Aljunied have a real tough choice. Good people on both sides. A bit bu4 she3 de2

If the WP team manages to win in Aljunied, they should form a shadow cabinet
Low TK – leader of opposition
Sylvia Lim – shadow home affairs minister
Chen SM – shadow foreign affairs minister
Faisal – shadow minister in charge of muslim affairs
Pritam Singh – shadow law minister

I think Sylvia is doing GY a favour. He can earn more money by being CEO of a govt link company. No need to settle for just $1.5m ministar pay. Then he doesn’t have to “sacrifice” himself anymore.

Who will replace Georgie as Foreign Minister? I would think that it would go to the hokkien peng. He can speak to foreigners in ah beng language so that they don’t dare to be guai lan with us.

Sylvia is incredible. Really hope she wins this time, though it will be hard. The mainstream media is going into overdrive trying to prevent GY from losing.
